Endorsed by Senator Bart Hester Arkansas State Senate District One.

"Proud to endorse Rebecca Petty for State Rep District 94 Rogers. Woman on a mission to protect our kids." Senator Bart Hester Arkansas District 1.

*Thank you, Senator Hester.*

Endorsed by Marc Klaas of the KlaasKids Foundation

"I met Rebecca in 1999, not long after the kidnap and murder of her 12-year-old daughter Andi. Even in the early stages of grief Rebecca sought ways to give meaning to Andi’s tragedy, and to help others in similar circumstances. I watched in awe as she reconciled her sorrow and triumphed over adversity. Rebecca does more than simply stand for justice and advocate for children’s safety and children’s rights. She eats, sleeps, and lives these issues. But Rebecca is more than that. She is fiercely intelligent, hardworking, and focused. Please join me in supporting my friend Rebecca’s candidacy for the Arkansas House of Representatives."

Marc Klass, President KlaasKids Foundation

*Thank you, Marc*

Rebecca Petty for Arkansas State Representative District 94 Rogers

I am not a career politician, yet I have spent the past fifteen years of my life in service to my family and community as a servant, an advocate for victims of violent crime and an advocate for children.

In May of 1999, I became a victim of violent crime, the mother of a young child who was kidnapped, brutally sexually assaulted, and strangled. That event changed my life dramatically and the circumstances led me on a path I never could have imagined. Nothing I do can ever bring Andi back, but I know that I can use that event as the impetus to make a difference in the lives of my family members and my community.

My life experience has placed me in a unique position to respond to this unexpected calling: a calling to serve the people of Arkansas.

My career as a child and crime victim advocate and consultant training law enforcement on the family perspective of child abduction and the AMBER Alert has opened my eyes and given me a passion for law enforcement officers and crime victims alike. I was part of the round-table discussion that initiated the National AMBER Alert. Successfully lobbied for S. 1738, the PROTECT Our Children Act of 2008.Successfully lobbied for the Adam Walsh and Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006 to be appropriated. National AMBER Alert Initiative Victim’s Roundtable 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011. Successfully lobbied for theAdam Walsh and Child Protection and Safety Act 2010 Lobbied Kansas SB 66 “Sunshine Law” with Senator Greg Smith 2013.  Lobbied Arkansas SB52 “Crime Victim’s Rights in Capital Punishment Bill” with Arkansas Senator Bart Hester 2013.

Child Advocate Rebecca Petty Seeks State House Seat

Rogers Republican Rebecca Petty, a child and crime-victim advocate, said Thursday (Feb. 6) she is running for the state House District 94 seat.
Petty, whose 12-year-old daughter was slain in Polk County in 1999, is vying for the seat being vacated by Rep. Debra Hobbs, R-Rogers, who is running for governor in the 2014 primary election.
Marge Wolf, a member of the Rogers City Council and president and CEO of the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank, also is running for the House District 94 seat in the GOP primary. There are no announced Democrats vying for the seat so far. Candidates have until the first week of March to file for office.
Petty, 43, a consultant who works with the U.S. Department of Justice on Amber Alert training, said she is on the “side of Benton County families to keep our children safe from sexual predators by equipping our police with the tools they need to put criminals behind bars.”
Petty’s daughter, Andi Brewer, was raped and strangled in woods near Mena by Karl D. Roberts, the child’s uncle by marriage, records show. Roberts, who was sentenced to die on May 24, 2000, is one of 35 people on Arkansas’ death row, according to the Arkansas Department of Correction website.
“I cannot stand sexual predators,” Petty, a first-time candidate for public office, told 5NEWS on Thursday. “I can’t stand it if they get out and re-offend.”
Among other issues, Petty also said she is a “pro-life” candidate and supports gun rights.
“I will not vote to infringe on Arkansas gun rights,” said Petty, who holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Arkansas Tech University.
Petty also said she supports “lower taxes and limited government.”
The primary election is May 20, with the winners from each party advancing to the Nov. 4 general election.
